Did you know ?

GAYDA chose the Grenache varietal considering that it was the oldest grape in the Languedoc for his FLYING SOLO brand. It is also the most important and most cultivated varietal in the region at the time when Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was flying the Languedoc to deliver mail to England and South America.

Tasting :
This bold wine is big on aroma and flavours, combining a lemon cinnamon, nutmeg nose with well balanced zesty citrus and ripe tropical fruit on the palate. Barrel fermentation and maturation adds richness, complexity and roundness to the wine. Ideally served with fish and shellfish, poultry and soft cheeses, but also complements quite rich, creamy sauces.

Decanter Wold Wine Awards - Bronze
Mundus Vini - Silver
Description :
1685 range. Pionnier in S.A. Winner of Chardonnay du Monde Vintage 2006 in Awarded in Burgundy February 2007, one of 10 best 'Chardonnay du Monde'.

All our grapes are selected from cool sites in the Coastal region including Stellenbosch, Bottelary Hills and Somerset West. Vineyards are planted on well drained soils. The specific variety of clones within the selected vineyards gives complexity and character to the wine.

Harvest:
Cool nights and long warm days allowed for optimum ripening and flavour formation. To ensure optimum ripeness, all grapes were hand-picked on taste and came in at an average sugar content of 24.5 Balling.

Vinification:
The grapes were crushed and the juice was cold-settled at 10C for 2 days before being transferred to barrels where 50% was inoculated with a pure yeast culture and the rest left to ferment naturally. Fermentation was completed after about 8 weeks. STill on its primary less, the wine was matured in French oak for 9 months. During this time the lees were stirred monthly to enhance the mouth-feel of the wine. The final blend consists of 70% Oak fermented and matured Chardonnay and 30% Stainless Steel fermented. The steel fermented component was also left on the lees for the 9 month period.

“The white scoop” Jean Aubry, Le Devoir, Feb.22, 2013
Boschendal 2011 Chardonnay, South Africa

Still on this troubling impression of glittering brightness in this chardonnay contrasted between the sweetness (it is not) and a fresh lemony acidity that gently fond on a texture of an oaky vanilla. An expressive dry white, stimulating and clear as a trumpet at dawn. Good on a gourmet breaded chicken. ***
Wines of the same family
Anecdote
This prestigious winery dates back to 1685 and was owned by Jean Le Long, a French Huguenot. It was in 1715 that Abraham De Villiers purchased the winery and rented it to Nicolas de Lanoy. Together, these families possess an experience in wine making that we can still appreciate today. Their red and white wines are still made in the traditional French style with exceptional quality Their new BRUT CAP CLASSIQUE is not only a pleasure for the eyes but also the palate.... http://www.boschendal.com/
