GAYDA chose the Grenache varietal considering that it was the oldest grape in the Languedoc for his FLYING SOLO brand. It is also the most important and most cultivated varietal in the region at the time when Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was flying the Languedoc to deliver mail to England and South America.

Description :
100% Shiraz from well established vineyards on the Boschendal farm and chosen areas in Stellenbosch, planted on stony, well-drained granitic soils with a cool Easterly aspect. Yield was 7 tons per hectare.
Vinification:
The components all finished fermentation on the skins, taking between 10-20 days to ferment completely. Some of the young wines underwent Malolactic fermentation in oak barrels (around 25%) and the rest completed fermentation in stainless steel tanks before being transferred to oak. Of these oak barrels 85% were French Oak, with 15% being from America, and 22% being new oak.

Anecdote
This prestigious winery dates back to 1685 and was owned by Jean Le Long, a French Huguenot. It was in 1715 that Abraham De Villiers purchased the winery and rented it to Nicolas de Lanoy. Together, these families possess an experience in wine making that we can still appreciate today. Their red and white wines are still made in the traditional French style with exceptional quality Their new BRUT CAP CLASSIQUE is not only a pleasure for the eyes but also the palate.... http://www.boschendal.com/
